If you are looking for ideas, The Church Of England has a wedding ceremony planner at where you can listen to popular hymns and see lyrics and readings online. You do not need to, but if you wish, you can print out a draft of your wedding ceremony to show the Vicar.

To arrange a wedding here at St Matthew’s, The first thing to do is to ring the Vicar for an appointment. Arrangements are made at the Vicarage on Wednesdays, between 7:00pm and 8:00pm.

First Contact with the Vicar

During the first phone call, he will advise whether or not you meet the legal requirements for marriage at St. Matthew's.

Before a change to the law in 2008, one of you must have been resident in the parish, or have been on the Electoral Roll (a list of baptised church members) for six months, as a habitual, non-resident worshipper.

However, a new Church of England Marriage Measure came into force in 2008 that provides for a couple to have the right to marry, without the need for a Special Licence, in the parish church of a parish with which one or both of them can show that he or she has a “qualifying connection”. These connections are as follows:

Marriage in Church after Divorce

In the past it was not possible to be married at St. Matthew's if you were divorced with a previous partner still living. Following a recent change in The Church of England's rules this may now be an option in certain circumstances.

For more details see the Church of England leaflet:

Marriage in Church after Divorce.

It is also possible to opt for a service of dedication after a civil ceremony. The Vicar will be happy to discuss this with you.
